I recently came across an image on social media. This image featured the movie poster for the 2024 film Venom: The Last Dance. The poster used the tagline, 'Til death do they part, and a reaction from an upset individual mad at the use of a pronoun. I wasn't aware that sometime within the span of a few years the plural form of they/them/theirs became woke. It's bad enough that the public, generally Americans, are unaware of the existence of the singular form (despite using it whenever one is unsure of a newborn infant's sex), but now they are showcasing the failure that is the American educational system by suggesting that they are unaware of the plural form too? Now with artificial intelligence quickly becoming a new standard in many industries. This has caused many to falsely accuse those who can write properly as being AI. Given the history of shorthand and netspeak, among various other forms, it doesn't surprise me that the syntax for future English is going to be a lot more simplistic. Simplistic enough that future English speakers maybe unable to read novels, or well anything, from this century or prior. The mad individual mentioned before was likely upset due to some deep internal conflict which puts him head-to-head with the transgender and non-binary communities, but it does raise the question, are people just getting too uneducated when it comes to the language we call English?
