The Star Wars fandom is the worse fandom out there. They always moan and throw tantrums over anything new then immediately flip sides pretending like it was the greatest thing ever written. This entire franchise should’ve ended in 1983, but George Lucas had to get a hard on for the new computer graphics technology that he went and write the prequels. Lucas had incredible foresight though. He likely knew that should he sell his company, Lucasfilms, to any corporation that the fans would shift their hate from him over to them. So, when Disney acquired the company, they knew not to fall into the trap of creating a sequel trilogy like the prequels. And the sequels were a return to what made the originals so great. They just suffered from an incoherent and disconnected way. People bitched about the first in the three so they tried something different and likely from George’s notes. People bitched, so they returned. People bitched.
One complaint was that the sequels weren’t like the prequels. In a sense, George Lucas’ attempt at writing off the originals worked! He conditioned the millennial audience to become accustomed to the massive scale of CGI armies locked in combat and heavily choreographed lightsaber duels. Disney now tries to profit from the prequel time period. Any bold new storytelling risks is met with complaints.
The quintessential Star Wars is no longer the films from 1977, 1980, and 1983. The new quintessential Star Wars films are:
Won, George Lucas has.
