Not in the way most people think of a king. If anything the title is supposed to be symbolic because a king is often associated with wealth and power over land or people. Christ is called King because he is enriched with the divinity of God. He was still a carpenter from Galilee who followed the faith tradition of Judaism. He was not the first Christian. Christianity wouldn't be discovered until later. Should be obvious since he is in the name. The faith tradition was named because of him. During Christ's lifetime he was shunned and he was left for dead by those who once admired him. All because the established government body felt threatened by him possibly inciting a rebellion. Seem familiar? It should. Yet Christians, who bear a name whose existence is dependent upon him now shun those not among their ranks. Jesus was a servant king, a servant who was bestowed the divinity of God. Such divinity made him more powerful and rich then any material king. Funny how Christians overlook this aspect of the story.
